Parable of the Treasure
Matt 13:44

Here we have a parable concerning Israel in the kingdom of heaven. Israel is like a treasure hid in a field. As in the other parables, the way to understand this parable is by cross referencing all of the types and making the proper associations.

In the parable of the treasure:

The treasure is Israel — Ex 19:5; Deut 14:2; Ps 135:4

The field is the world — Matt 13:38

The man that found the treasure is the Lord — Eze 16:3-8

After he found the treasure, he hid — Deut 31:17; Ps 10:1; Is 45:15; Is 54:8 but he won’t hide forever [notice he doesn’t hide the treasure, he hides himself]

He sold all that he had — Phil 2:6-8; 2 Cor 8:9

And he bought the field — Jn 3:16; Rev 11:15 [he passed up the offer of the devil to get the world without selling all he had, i.e., without the death on the cross Lk 4: 5-8]

Notice that his motive was joy — Heb 12:2
