Living by Faith
Rom 1:17
2-08-09
Three times in the New Testament we read the command, “the just shall live by faith” – once in Rom 1:17 and also in Gal 3:11 and Heb 10:38.
This is a great command but why are the just to live by faith? Well, according to Heb 11:6 without faith it is impossible to please the Lord and according to Rom 14:23 whatsoever is not of faith it is sin. So, with that said, how do you and I live by faith? What are the characteristics of a person who lives by faith?
First of all you would have to get saved - Rom 1:16-17; Eph 2:8
Then, after that you would do the following:
Seek first the Kingdom of God - Matt 6:30-33 taking no thought for food and raiment
Love God not money - 1 Tim 6:10 - dependence upon money obscures faith
Believe what God said - Matt 8:18-26 [Rom 10:17] – fear will cause you to quit believing his words – [Matt 14:29-31]
Do God’s will - Rom 12:1-3 – believe that he will accomplish through you what he called you to do [2 Thes 1:11]
Pray without doubting - Matt 21:22 – Jas 1:6
Rely upon the grace of God - Rom 5:1-2
Stand fast and continue in the faith grounded and settled - 1 Cor 16:13 – Col 1:23
Resist the devil - Eph 6:16 [with the shield of faith] – 1 Pet 5:9 [whom resist stedfast in the faith]
Endure persecutions and tribulations - 2 Thes 1:4
Overcome the world - 1 Jn 5:4
