Unveiling the Mystery of Iniquity
Mike Younts taught Sunday school this past week and dealt with the subject of Iniquity. Iniquity actually started with the Devil in Eze. 28:15, "Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee."
Where Iniquity Originated
In Gen. 2:17, God commanded Adam not to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and warned him that he would surely die if he did. The Devil succeeded in getting Eve to eat the fruit and she convinced Adam to sin with her (Gen. 3:6). Thus they died spiritually that day and physically, later. So, iniquity entered the human race through Adam (Rom. 5:12).
How We Got Iniquity
Sin was passed down from Adam to all of his descendants (Ps. 51:5, Rom. 3:23). Eph. 2:1-2 shows clearly that men without Christ are "dead in trespasses and sins." All of Adams offspring are spiritually dead just like Adam was after he had sinned.
What Iniquity Does to Men
Iniquity puts men into the Devils family, spiritually. In Jn. 8:44, Jesus was preaching to the scribes and Pharisees and said, "Ye are of your father the devil
" As a matter of fact, all who are not born of God (Jn. 1:12-13; Jn. 3:3-7) are "children of the devil," (1 Jn. 3:9-10). Just look at the tongue for an example of how iniquity has affected us. The "tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity," (Jas. 5-6). As a matter of fact, before we were saved, all of the members of our flesh were yielded to iniquity (Rom. 6:19).
How We Get Out of Iniquity
When Jesus came to this earth, "he was bruised for our iniquities
the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all," (Is. 53:4-6). Jesus Christ bore our sins in his own body on the cross. He paid the price for our sins. And he gave us eternal life (Rom. 6:23). Like Titus 2:14 says, "Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." And thank God, his mercy endures forever (Ps. 136)!
You can be saved today if you will trust Jesus Christ to personally take away your iniquity and give you eternal life.
