Where did the dinosaurs come from? Good Question!!

When you read through the Bible, you don’t find a single reference to dinosaurs. But, you do find some interesting verses that shed some light on where they came from and when they roamed the earth. Remember, though, that most of the "dinosaur skeletons" that "scientists" have assembled are made up of plaster of Paris, and not bones. So, there is a lot of "scientific" guesswork and speculation that goes into showing you what these creatures looked like. There was obviously something here, but not necessarily what the "scientists" have portrayed.

In Gen. 1:2, we find an often-overlooked truth – the earth was underwater! That’s right! When the Spirit moved, He moved upon the face of the waters." Then in verse 6, God made a firmament that divided the waters and caused the bulk of the waters to be taken off the earth and held above the heavens (Ps. 148:4). The rest of the water on earth was gathered into one place. It was not until then that the dry land appeared (verses 9&10).

Now check the cross reference in 2 Pet. 3:4-6. At the beginning of the creation (Gen. 1:1), the earth was standing out of the water! Then it was "in the water," like you find it in Gen. 1:2. That earth in Gen. 1:1 was overflowed with water and it "perished." Some Bible teachers have said that the flood spoken of in 2 Peter is a reference to Noah’s flood. But it can’t be because the earth didn’t perish after Noah’s flood. The dove brought back an olive leaf that was growing after the earth dried up (Gen. 8:11). But following the flood between Gen. 1:1 and Gen. 1:2, God had to "recreate" much of what was originally here.

Have you ever noticed that word "replenished" in Gen. 1:28? After Adam was created, the instructions were to be fruitful and multiply and "replenish" the earth. The word means, "to fill again." That’s an indication that there was something here between Gen. 1:1 and Gen. 1:2. And evidently, something went wrong with it because God flooded the earth like He did in Noah’s day to get rid of it.

Well, go to Gen. 6:1-4, and you will find a clue to help solve the problem. The "sons of God" came down and cohabited with women. Their offspring were giants like Goliath and Og, king of Bashan. Do you know who the sons of God were? They were fallen angels. They showed up with Satan in Job 1 & 2, and they were singing in the universe before they fell, before Adam was even created (Job 38:1-7).

So, if there were animals on the earth between Gen. 1:1 and Gen. 1:2, and some of the fallen angels committed bestiality with them (Lev. 18:23-24), their offspring would have been mutated giant animals – things like satyrs (half man-half animal; Is. 13:21), dragons (Is. 13:22); mutated locusts (Rev. 9:7-10) and the like, commonly called dinosaurs, today.

In conclusion, if you were going to try to locate the dinosaurs anywhere, the best place would be before the flood that destroyed the earth between Gen. 1:1 and Gen. 1:2.

Hope this helps,

Pastor Welder
